Install

Download the Windows 11 x64 installer from the official download page, verify its SHA-256, run per-user setup, and launch Indexborn from the Start menu. Gamma 0.0.5 is intentionally not Authenticode-signed, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning.

Activation

Open Settings, paste the license key issued by Indexborn for your purchase, and activate this installation. All paid plans allow one active Windows PC at a time. If you activate another PC, it automatically replaces the previous activation.

Feature Access

Free mode finds exact duplicates and lets you choose where redundant copies should go. Indexborn creates a timestamped, recoverable run folder inside that output, which must be outside the scanned folder so moved copies stay out of the next scan. One verified copy is kept, and nothing is permanently deleted. A full license unlocks rename, organize, AI analysis, and output copy.

AI and local preparation

After paid activation, connect your own OpenAI API key in Settings. The native Windows app prepares bounded evidence locally and sends it directly to OpenAI for naming and organization, using your key. Original files are not uploaded. Potentially sensitive items are held for review, and image or PDF previews are sent only if you explicitly enable that setting. OpenAI usage is billed separately by OpenAI and is not included in the Indexborn subscription. Your key stays protected on your Windows PC; Indexborn's license server never receives it.

A paid license without a configured API key cannot run AI analysis. No publisher-funded fallback or free AI trial is provided. A ChatGPT subscription is separate from API billing. Gamma offers Monthly only at $9.99 USD per month; Annual and Lifetime are closed for new purchases.

Updates

Indexborn checks at most once per day and also offers a manual check. An update is never installed without your confirmation.

Since Gamma 0.0.3, a small Settings button lights up in your theme color when a newer public version is available. Save your work first, then choose Download & install. The updater verifies the download before starting setup. The Download page and in-app updater identify the same published version. You can also download the latest installer and install over your existing app; no new license purchase is needed.

Troubleshooting

If activation fails, verify the license key and internet connection. If AI analysis cannot start, check your OpenAI API key, OpenAI billing/usage limits, and the in-app privacy hold message before retrying. Never include your OpenAI key in a support message or diagnostic export.
